Out of the Ocean

I survived my first summer after the storm. The possibilities of it arriving one day, and that I would love it was like a figment of someone else’s imagination. Then summer came, and it felt like an old friend, whom I had not seen in so long, and I remembered the line from a song by one of my favorite artist “Give your heart and change your mind, you’re allowed to do it, cause God knows it’s been done to you and somehow you got through it” and just like that forgiveness came in, and I knew that I was going to be OK after all.

I Love New York.

I love NY.jpg

When your own city feels too small, I suggest going to the Big Apple. Nothing makes for great distraction like walking the streets of New York City. I live in a place where people are spiteful, deliberately  dismissive, rude and history is something you read in textbooks and for the hopeless romantics. I love everything about New York. The seasons, the food, the history, that fact that in a place with 8.5 million people its nice to know that you are far from crossing paths with the person who ghost hunts your steps back home.

Maybe our mistakes are what make our fate. Without them, what would shape our lives? Perhaps if we never veered off course we wouldn’t fall in love, or have babies, or be who we are. After all, seasons change. So do cites. People come into your life and people go. But it’s comforting to know that the ones you love are always in your heart. And if you’re very lucky, a plane ride away.

I took to the great outdoors  like a Howard Deutch movie. As if I had been out in the wild all my life, and I knew exactly how to survive in it.  I was a natural at kayaking, snorkeling and paddle boarding, forgetting that it was my first time. I made sure to ignore the phone all day until this beauty showed on my way home.  Space is beautiful, time is a blessing and sunsets are what dreams are made of.

It’s a pretty day let’s go outside and enjoy it
If you got something else in mind then I’m all for it..

I didn’t realize how much I took the sun for granted. I put away the curtains in my room to make sure I didn’t forget to appreciate the morning sun.  I also put away the alarm clock once I realized. I had been waking up before the sun made its way through the morning clouds.. Many times I found myself admiring it from my bed during lazy Sunday afternoons. Who needs romance when you have the sun?

Never seen a sun shine like this …

I Waited ’til I Saw the Sun

When was the last time you saw the sunrise or the sunset? I encourage you to go at once. Get up tomorrow and catch the sunrise, and before you go home catch it setting. It revives you like nothing else especially after your heart’s been broken, which you forget about once you take a good picture.

Sunrise, sunrise
Looks like mornin’ in your eyes
But the clocks held 9:15 for hours
Sunrise, sunrise
Couldn’t tempt us if it tried
‘Cause the afternoon’s already come and gone…

Like Hope, There Comes the Sun

They say protect yourself from the sun because it causes cancer. There were times where I preferred a sun burn over cupids horrible aim. Interesting how during the most  numbing moments of my life, I managed to still capture some of  its greatest gifts. I believe this is what HOPE looks like.

Just like a star across my sky,
Just like an angel off the page,
You have appeared to my life,
Feel like I’ll never be the same,
Just like a song in my heart,
Just like oil on my hands.
